Barton has been involved with Linux, developers and the open source community for close to 20 years. Currently on sabbatical finishing up a gap year, he was most recently at Dell Technologies where he served as Dell’s community manager within Dell’s Developer Relations team. During his 15 years at Dell, Barton worked in a variety of roles in groups such as the office of the CTO, enterprise strategy, professional services and marketing. In addition to his day job, Barton founded and lead Project Sputnik, a line of Ubuntu-powered developer laptops and workstations.

Prior to Dell, Barton was a member of Sun Microsystem’s Open Source program office and he began his professional career in Tokyo, working in Sony’s workstation division. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Barton is a single father of three, residing just outside of Austin, Texas.
