Session: The Challenges of Public Code … Building an Open Source Culture at the BBC

In this talk we will look at some of the challenges of driving an open source culture in a publicly funded organisation. Corporate and team culture, organisational structure, public policy … all impact our approach to open source. We will share our wins and loses in the open source space, and how grassroot movements and informal communities drive a lot of our open strategy.

As a publicly funded corporation, the motivations for engaging with open source can be a little different than other organisations, which we will explore. Finally, we will deep dive into the current state of play of open source and InnerSource projects at the BBC, how they are being managed, and what our next steps and future ambitions are.
