Session: Managing the project-product tug of war
Every open source company has to manage the tension between their commercial offering and their open source project, although the tension looks different for every company, depending on the industry, the business model, the target user / target customer and more. Emily Omier will discuss the different forms the relationship between project and product can take and how to create a unifying story around project and product while remaining clear on how each is different and services a different market. Emily will help attendees create a framework around the relationship between product, project and business outcomes that will and guide them when making roadmap decisions; communicating with their sales team and with prospects/customer; marketing product and project; and allocating engineering resources between project and product.
