YK Sugi: The Anatomy of an Open-Source AI Coding Assistant

The AI coding assistant space has been evolving rapidly with new tools coming out frequently. Despite their popularity, the inner workings of these tools often remain a mystery. Recently, I had a chance to explore Sourcegraph Cody, an open-source AI coding assistant, and gained a lot of insights into its inner workings. This talk will delve into how it manages and incorporates the right context with the right models, and how it’s potentially relevant to every developer’s workflow.

I will also discuss how you can quickly understand a large open-source codebase using AI tools and the benefits of open-sourcing from a company’s perspective. Join me to explore the technical details and broader implications of these tools.

Anna Iosif & Shakira Ndagire Seruwagi: Empowering Community Engagement: Turning Enthusiasm into Action

This talk explores strategies to transform the excitement of new contributors to Ushahidi’s open-source technology platform into meaningful contributions for social good. We discuss challenges associated with a rapid influx of enthusiastic members and how we addressed them through refined internal processes, utilizing GitHub features to empower collaboration, and fostering a culture of openness and inclusivity.

We showcase opportunities for contribution across various domains (Code, Quality Assurance, Translation, Design, Documentation, etc.) within Ushahidi’s social justice mission. The focus goes beyond code – it’s about empowering mission-aligned organizations and amplifying underrepresented voices through technology.
