Open Source Initiative at All Things Open

The Open Source Initiative (OSI), the maintainer of the Open Source Definition, is nearing the culmination of a two-year quest to gather input from the global Open Source community and establish a standard Open Source AI Definition (OSAID). Version 0.0.9 was released on August 22, and since then we have continued our worldwide roadshow, visiting Hong Kong for AI_dev and Beijing for Open Source Congress. Conversations are happening online as well as in weekly town halls, and there are still several more conferences where public discussions and recommendations will continue leading up to All Things Open. It is there, in Raleigh, that we will unveil the stable release of the Open Source AI Definition.

With the release of new AI models claiming to be Open Source nearly every week, it was crucial to ensure that the voices of the global Open Source community were heard, and not just the largest, most powerful corporations. The Open Source AI Definition revolves around the ability to freely use, study, modify and share an AI system. Learn more in our All Things Open Track!
