All Things Open: Your ATO Ultimate Survival Guide

Ready to dive into the world of open source?

All Things Open is the largest open source technology conference on the U.S. East Coast.

All Things Open is your gateway to the latest innovations and the coolest tech minds. But navigating a conference can be a bit overwhelming, right? Fear not! We’ve got you covered with this ATO ultimate survival guide.

Before You Go:

  • Plan Your Attack: Map out your must-see sessions and workshops. Don’t forget to check out the speaker lineup – you might just discover your new favorite tech guru.
    • Pro-Tip: Check out the infamous “hallway track” where you will find opportunities to connect and network. There will be spacious times between sessions so make sure to check it out.
  • Download the App: The ATO Conference app. This is your digital lifesaver. It’s got everything from the schedule to speaker bios so you can plan your day on the fly. Instructions for downloading the app are located at Registration and on printed schedules.
  • Pack Smart: Comfortable shoes, chargers, and a notepad are conference essentials. Oh, and don’t forget your badge – that’s your golden ticket to all the tech, fun, and sessions.
    •  Pro-tip: Don’t forget your hoodie, the Raleigh Convention Center can be a little chilly sometimes, but that doesn’t stop ATO from making that fire speaker line-up year after year.

During the Conference:

  • Get Lost (Purposefully): Wander around the exhibit hall and discover hidden gems. You never know what cool projects, companies, or startups might catch your eye.
  • Network Like a Pro: Strike up conversations with fellow attendees. You never know who might become your next boss, employer, mentor, or mentee.
  • Learn Something New: Attend workshops and breakout sessions. They’re a great way to deepen your knowledge and skills.
  • Take Notes: Jot down key points from talks and workshops. You’ll be glad you did when you’re trying to remember that awesome new tool you learned about.
  • Share Your Notes: share your notes or field report with your colleague who couldn’t attend, or better yet, blog about it. We know a place called We Love Open Source 😉
  • Fuel Up and Stay Hydrated: Don’t let your energy levels crash. Grab a quick bite to eat and stay hydrated.
    • The convention center has water refill stations, so pack your refillable water bottle.

Bonus Tips:

  • Social Media: Share your conference adventures on social media and use the official hashtag to connect with other attendees.

#WeLoveOpenSource #AllThingsOpen #TechConference #OpenSource

  • Be Yourself: The best way to network is to be authentic. Let your personality shine through.
    • Pro Tip: Prepare and practice a short elevator pitch so you are ready to go when you have an opportunity to network at the conference. I’m an introvert so it helps me to have a snippet about my career, role, interests or what brought me to the conference ready to share with others.

Remember: All Things Open is more than just a conference; it’s a community. So have fun, make connections, and soak up all the knowledge you can!
