The Mecha Comet – your programmable sidekick computer

Mecha Systems (US) is building a full stack edge computing platform from hardware to software and cloud for deploying applications in the real world. After close to 3 years in development, the team at Mecha will be unveiling their first hardware, the Mecha Comet, at All Things Open 2024. The Mecha Comet is a first-of-its-kind Linux handheld computer for personal and edge computing.

This is an open computer with open-source software inside out from the Bootloader to the Kernel and RootFS and open-source hardware (schematics, mechanicals).

The basic specifications are given below:

  • Operating System: Mechanix OS, a debian (linux kernel 6.1) based distribution with open-source build system
  • Processor: Quad-core 1.8 GHz ARM64 processor
  • Memory: 4GB LPDDR4
  • Storage: 32GB eMMC (120 MB/s sequential write, 250 MB/s read)
  • Connectivity: 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz IEEE 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 5.0 with BLE
  • Connectors: 2x USB 2.0, 1x Gigabit Ethernet, 1x PCIe 2.0 (M2)
  • Audio: 2 Digital Mic, 1x HD Speaker
  • AI capabilities: Google Coral via PCIe support
